Madera -
The city of Madera will see a woman seated on the
council as the top vote getter for the first time and
the return of a former "Green and Clean" councilman.
Banker Sally Bomprezzi took a
commanding lead all night and held on to be the top
vote getter over incumbent Steve Mindt and former used
car salesman Gary Svanda. Long time councilman John
Wells was narrowly beaten by Svanda by less than 2
percent. Wells has served on the city council on and
off since 1962.
The biggest winner of the night was
former Madera Unified Administrator Carles Beckett.
Beckett, who has been the districts biggest
cheerleader and undoubtedly bleeds Coyote Blue, took a
commanding lead once the absentee ballots were counted
and hung on all night long.
The real race for
trustee was for the fourth position. At this time the
winner is still to close to call. Incumbent John
Peters is in the lead by 40 votes but the lead
switched back and forth all night between the trustee
and former teacher Tom Greci. With provisional and
absentee ballots still to be counted, this race is
anybody's guess.
Appointed trustee Bruce Norton was
rejected by voters all night. Norton was appointed to
replace Trustee Lisa Frausto who left Madera and her
family behind to start a new life in Las Vegas.
In Chowchilla Legislative
Assistant to the Madera County Board of Supervisors
Justin White was elected to his first term on the city
council by a landslide. John Chavez Jr. gathered
enough votes to defeat appointed incumbent Ray Warner.
Warner was appointed when former Chowchilla Police
Chief John Robinson was unable to serve after being
elected. Both
bonds in Madera passed easily. Measure U passed for
Madera Unified school growth and Measure T passed for
Madera County's improvement of our roads. |
