Man Arrested for Assaulting Deputy with a Knife Print E-mail

FRESNO - Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested and booked 56 year old Walter Barker of Fresno into the Fresno County Jail. He faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a peace officer and making threats while resisting arrest.

At 6:15 am on Friday, a Fresno County Sheriff’s deputy contacted several homeless people who were sleeping in the front patio area of the Sisk Courthouse located at 1130 O Street in downtown Fresno. One of them, Walter Barker, began to argue with the deputy and even threatened to kill the deputy. Barker then picked up a plastic sprinkler cover and threw it at the deputy, but it missed him and struck the wall.

Property Crimes Detectives Arrest Woman Linked to Check Forgery and Identity Theft Print E-mail

FRESNO - On December 8th, property crimes detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office arrested and booked Rhae Cravins into the Fresno County Jail. The 28 year old Fresno woman faces charges of forgery, drug possession and possession of stolen property. She has since posted the necessary bond to bail out of jail.

On December 8th, detectives served a search warrant at a home on the 4900 block of N. Holt Ave. in Fresno. Detectives had information that the suspect living there, Rhae Cravins, was receiving stolen property and committing identity theft.

Candice Nicole Ooley Sentenced to 11 Years in State Prison for DUI Print E-mail

MADERA – Madera County District Attorney David A. Linn announced that Candice Nicole Ooley, 23, of Clovis, was sentenced in Madera County Superior Court by Presiding Judge Ernest J. LiCalsi. Ms. Ooley, who had pled guilty to charges of felony vehicular manslaughter, felony driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol with injury, and felony driving a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level of .08 or more with injury, received a sentence of 11 years in State Prison along with various appropriate fines.

District Attorney, David A. Linn, stated, “The maximum penalty she could have received was 13 years. Judge LiCalsi, based upon the probation report and the sentencing memorandums that had been filed, along with the statement of Louisa Pamplona, the wife of the deceased victim, imposed a sentence of 11 years.”

O’Reilly Auto Parts to Pay $9.86 Million Settlement in Hazardous Waste Disposal Case Print E-mail

MADERA - Madera County District Attorney, David A. Linn, along with 50 other California District Attorneys, announced today that Alameda County Superior Court Judge, Brad Seligman, has ordered the Missouri-based O’Reilly Auto Parts to pay $9.86 million as part of a settlement of a civil environmental prosecution alleging the company mishandled hazardous waste.


The consent judgment agreed to by O’Reilly Auto Enterprises, LLC; O'Reilly Automotive, Inc.; O'Reilly Automotive Stores, Inc.; and Ozark Automotive Distributors, Inc., resolves allegations made in a civil enforcement lawsuit filed in Alameda County.

Three Mendota Men to Face Murder Charges Print E-mail

MENDOTA - The three Mendota men Fresno County Sheriff’s homicide detectives arrested last week have been identified as 27 year old Ruben Escobar, 22 year old Carlos Cruz and 18 year old Darwin Gomez. On Tuesday, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office filed murder charges on each of the suspects.

Around 10:00 pm on December 1st, Mendota Police officers responded to a call of shots fired on Stamoules Street. Officers discovered a woman, later identified as Marty Sepe, lying on the sidewalk in front of a home located on the 500 block of Stamoules Street.

DUI Enforcement Operations Planned This Weekend Print E-mail

FRESNO - Officers from The Fresno Police Department’s DUI Enforcement Team will deploy this weekend to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers in the Department’s ongoing traffic safety campaign. DUI Saturation Patrols will deploy on Saturday, December 10, 2016 between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests.

In California, this deadly crime led to 867 deaths and over 23,000 serious injuries in 2013 because someone failed to designate a sober driver. Nationally, the latest data shows over 10,000 were killed by an impaired driver. From 2013 through 2015, officers have investigated 1,253 DUI collisions which have claimed 26 lives and resulted in another 273 injuries in the City of Fresno.
