World Ag Expo Kicks Off 50th Celebration Print E-mail

TULARE - World Ag Expo kicked off its 50th anniversary show Tuesday in Tulare, California.  The red carpet was rolled out on Tuesday for Opening Ceremonies at 10:00 a.m. in the World Ag Expo Arena. The national anthem was performed by Brenna Yaeger, Season 8 contestant on The Voice. Yaeger was accompanied by Tulare Community Band.

The Bud Light After-Hours Party will be held on Wednesday in the World Ag Expo Arena, starting at 4:00 p.m. All attendees are encouraged to come celebrate World Ag Expo’s golden anniversary with a concert by Parmalee and a fireworks show!  The concert will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is free with paid World Ag Expo admission.

Man Shoots Innocent Bystander in Courthouse Park; Deputies Arrest Gunman Print E-mail

FRESNO - Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested 24 year old John Major and booked him into the Fresno County Jail. Major faces three felony counts of attempted homicide.

Around 1:30 pm on Monday, dispatchers took phone calls stating multiple shots had been fired in Courthouse Park, next to Sheriff’s Headquarters located at 2200 Fresno Street. At the same time dispatchers were handling calls, deputies both inside and outside Sheriff’s Headquarters heard the shots and responded to the area.

Two People Identified in Case of Smuggling Contraband into the Fresno County Jail Print E-mail

FRESNO - The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing a case where Sheriff’s detectives identified two men who tried to smuggle contraband into the Fresno County Jail. One of the men is currently in custody for an unrelated case and the other man is not in custody. The D.A. will determine if the suspects will face charges of conspiracy to bring contraband into a jail.

This smuggling case is also the one which prompted the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office to investigate Fresno Attorney, Anthony (Tony) Capozzi. Detectives have completed their investigation into Capozzi and the evidence shows there are no grounds for detectives to request charges be filed against Capozzi.

Train verses Pedestrian Fatal Accident at California and Parallel Avenues Print E-mail

FRESNO - On Friday, February 10, 2017, at 12:23 PM, officers from the Fresno Police Department were dispatched to California and Parallel avenues regarding a male adult laying on the railroad tracks at that location. When officers arrived on scene, they found a deceased male adult laying on the tracks at that location. There was no train in the area at that time. A citizen was driving by on California Avenue and saw the male laying on the tracks and he called the police department.

As officers conducted their investigation they located a small flashlight, turned on, laying in the dirt between the rails some distance from the decedents body. Also, officers located several areas in the dirt, also between the rails, that were recently turned over located several yards east of the flashlight.

Chowchilla Woman Charged with Manslaughter & Felony Child Abuse Print E-mail

MADERA – Madera County District Attorney, David A. Linn, announced today that he had filed a criminal complaint against Erica Bautista, of Chowchilla, California. Ms. Bautista is an employee of California Department of Corrections, working at Valley State Prison in Chowchilla.

In Counts One and Two of the complaint, Ms. Bautista is charged with felony manslaughter for the death of her one year old child, David Curiel, along with felony child abuse, which she committed against David. The child abuse charge includes a special allegation that she willfully harmed and injured her child, resulting in his death.

KFC Gunshot Victim in Critical Condition Print E-mail

FRESNO - On Monday afternoon patrol officers from the Fresno Police Department were dispatched to Dakota/West area of Fresno regarding to shooting victims at the location. Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a Hispanic male adult in his 30s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was immediately rushed to CRMC for treatment. Other shooting victims were at the location but they were not struck by the gunfire.

According to witnesses the following is a how the shooting occurred. The victim was sitting in the right front passenger's seat of an associates Jeep Cherokee. The owner of the vehicle was sitting in the driver seat and there were other occupants in the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was parked in a lot near the KFC at Dakota and West Avenues. As the victims sat in the parking lot, the suspect vehicle pulled up next to them on the driver side of their vehicle.

Ex-Felon Arrested for Possesion of Stolen Handgun Print E-mail

FRESNO - Monday evening Southwest Patrol Sergeant Mike Gebhart of the Fresno Police Department was proactively patrolling the area of South Sarah Street & East Florence Avenue an area known and frequented by criminal street gang members, absconding parolees, narcotics dealers, narcotic users, and prostitution activity.

While in the area, Sergeant Gebhart made contact with a suspicious vehicle. The driver was identified as 24 year old Fresno resident, Villa Posse Criminal Street Gang Member Associate, Robert Lockhart. Lockhart was found to be on active California Department of Correction Parole for second degree robbery.
