Madera – The Madera speedway will host an open wheel special event this coming Saturday night May 7th, 2011. This event is dedicated to one of the greatest racing families known to the sport of automobile racing, the Vukovich family.

Fans will enjoy Super modifieds, BCRA midgets and a special tribute appearance by the vintage super modifieds, sprints and midgets. Kody and Tanner Swanson will make their only appearance at the Madera Speedway in 2011, with Kody driving in both the super modified and midget races.  Davey Pombo will make a driving appearance in the super modified race bringing another great racing name to the Vukovich Classic.

GOBULLDOGS - A coach who played an integral part in one of the nation's most successful college basketball programs for nearly a decade has been hired to lead the Bulldog men's basketball program. Fresno State Director of Athletics Thomas Boeh announced Thursday the hiring of former Texas assistant coach Rodney Terry as head men's basketball coach.

Thursday, 17 March 2011 22:29 - A man who guided the Bulldog men's basketball team through the most difficult time in the history of the program will step down as head coach.

Steve Cleveland, who is credited with changing the culture of the men's basketball program relative to student-athlete conduct, academic progress and NCAA rules compliance, will depart his position after six seasons as head coach. Cleveland will assume reassignment to an administrative post within the Department of Athletics.
Baseball Great Gus Zernial Dies at 87 Print E-mail

Fresno – Former major league baseball star Gus Zernial died Thursday afternoon at the age of 87. In the 50’s he was a force at the plate in the American League winning the Triple Crown and smacking 237 dingers in his 11 year career. In the 70’s he was the sportscaster for KFSN Channel 30 in Fresno, then in retirement became a longtime ambassador for the Fresno Grizzlies, the Triple A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
