MADERA - Madera South High School's sixth homecoming celebration is now in the history books. Pastor Roger Leach of Valley West Church was chosen as the grand marshal of Friday's activates which included the parade and pregame ceremonies.

The parade kicked off in the morning and traveled down Stadium Road to Madera South where it entered the campus on Pecan Street. Children from the Purple Track's feeder schools lined Stadium Road to see the high schools on their floats and in the band. Several of the varsity football players even walked the crowds of kids shaking hands.

Once the parade route entered the school, it was the high schoolers chance to see their friends and cheer on the King and Queen contestants. Later that night Ruth Kochergina & Larry Casarrubias-Tapia Named MSHS 2016 Homecoming Queen & King.

Before the game Pastor Leach was presented with a plaque and an autographed football signed by the varsity football team. The grand marshal then headed out to the fifty-yard line with the officials for the coin toss. Leach brought with him a 1977 Eisenhower silver dollar.

The flip was tails which the Sanger Apaches won and the football game began. Like most of the season, the Stallions struggled the entire night scoring only once. Sanger scored often on Madera South scalping the Stallions 49-7. If it is any consolation, the also struggling Madera Coyotes were beat just as bad Friday night by the Bullard Knights 42-7. Which should make for an interesting Stadium Road Showdown at the end of the season with the two teams being at the bottom of the CMAC rankings.

The Madera Evening Lions Club was back at the stadium to sell their famous Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches Friday. The Lions Club was once a weekly concessionaire at the football games but removed this year and replaced with a rotating selection of vendors. While the Philly Cheese steaks were popular, this week was a battle of sandwiches with Deli Delicious and Jimmy Johns also on hand peddling their meaty creations. I for one enjoyed Deli Delicious at the game.

Each class and club picked a decade of pop culture to promote. My oldest daughter's class chose the 60's, to which I had to answer questions all week about which clothing items in her wardrobe were more sixties inspired. She forgets that at the end of the sixties I was only five years old and didn't have much choice in the clothes I even got to wear  But thanks to Google and the Internet she figured it out.

GO STALLIONS!
