MADERA - Over 1700 third graders from the school's of the Madera Unified School District descended on the Madera Fairgrounds for Kid's Day. The kids went through the buildings and visited the lions and tigers and lizards. Oh my.

The folks from the Jamie Oliver Big Rig Teaching Kitchen showed the kids which foods to eat for a healthier lifestyle. The kitchen is at the fair all week and the instructors are putting on cooking demonstrations for parents and kids.

Over at the Lumber Mill, kids learned to pan for gold. They also learned about the history of Madera and its founding as a lumber mill site. The Spanish word for lumber is "Madera".

Later that night Scotty McCreery took to the main stage and rocked a near sold out crowd. The former American Idol contestant played all of his hits and the covered the hits of George Strait, Garth Brooks and Tim McGraw. As well as playing many classic country hits.

Today the kids of the local FFA's and 4H clubs will be selling their animals at the Madera Junior Livestock Sale. Monies raised at the auction pay for the kids projects and the auction is sponsored by the Madera Kiwanis Club. Later tonight the rock band Life House will take the stage. Tickets are still available at the fair's box office. Gates open at 3:00pm
