Madera South Wins Homecoming 54-6: Moore & Lopez Named King & Queen Print E-mail

Madera – Madera South High School celebrated their third homecoming in a big way. The varsity football team, which is ranked 19th in the Valley by the bias Fresno Bee, destroyed the Fresno High Warriors 54-6.  The 8-1 Stallions, who are undefeated in North Yosemite League play, got three touchdowns from Donald Caballero and five others from a host of Stallions. If Madera South can beat the struggling McLane Highlanders next week, they will clinch their first league championship in the schools history and head into playoffs with a high seeding.

Clovis West Gets First Win of Season: Takes Down The Bears in Golden Spike Battle 42-34 Print E-mail

Clovis - It finally happened in week seven, Clovis West varsity football won a game. To put an extra smile on the faces of the Golden Eagle proud the win came against their Tri-River Athletic Conference rivals the Buchanan Bears. Their 42-34 win won Clovis West bragging rights as to not being the worse team in the TRAC this year and they took home the Golden Spike trophy the two teams fight over every year.

Clovis West took the win because Buchanan couldn’t manage to score on the after point all night long. Once Clovis West would score seven, Buchanan would come right back and score six. When Clovis West would put up fourteen, Buchanan would come right back and put up twelve. And that was the margin for most of the night.

Bulldogs Fall to Ole Miss 38-28 Print E-mail

Fresno State – The Fresno State Bulldogs hosted the Rebels from the University of Mississippi Saturday night. This was the first time a team from the South Eastern Conference, considered by many to be the best football conference in the country, played in Bulldog Stadium.

From the onset it was a see-saw game with eight lead changes on the evening in front of an announced attendance of 32,000. For most of the evening there was a one point margin in the score, then Dogs didn’t show up for the fourth quarter and Ole Miss racked up 11 unanswered points for a 38-28 final score.

Madera -  The celebration Friday night at Memorial Stadium wasn't because of the score at the end of the football game. Sunnyside trampled the Coyotes 48-21 on Lee DaSilva Field. No the celebration was at half time when seniors Jazette Drew and Christian Ramirez were named the 2011 Madera High Homecoming Queen and King. Former Madera Unified Superintendent Larry Risinger, who served as homecoming grand marshal, was honored before the game by MHS Principal Kent Albertson.

Stallions Trample Coyotes in Battle For Stadium Road 14-3 Print E-mail

Madera – Five years ago at Radcliff Stadium Scott Donegan fielded his first football team to take on the Madera Coyotes for the new Madera South High School. Then it was a junior varsity team because the school did not have a varsity team. The young Stallion team stomped the JV Coyotes that night but for the next four years Donegan and his varsity teams could not get past their Stadium Road rival. Friday night that all changed.
